ResurFx Skin Resurfacing Treatment Guidelines

Pre Treatment

  • 6 months prior to treatment, absolutely NO Accutane.
  • Avoid all laser treatments and sun exposure for 2 weeks.
  • Avoid active skincare products for 1 week prior to treatment including but not limited to:
    • Vitamins A, C and E
    • Retinol, Retin-A, and Retinoids
    • Niacinamide, other ceramide products
    • Acids (AHA, BHA, PHA, Lactic, Glycolic, Salicylic, etc.)
    • Hydroquinone
    • Benzoyl Peroxide
    • Exfoliating products
  • 3-5 days prior to treatment:
    • Avoid excess alcohol.
    • Increase water intake to 64oz daily.

Post Treatment

  • Avoid sun exposure, strenuous exercise, saunas, jacuzzis, etc. for 48 hours.
  • Use a gentle cleanser and Barrier Restoring Cream or moisturizer twice daily for 7 days.
  • Makeup can be applied 24 hours after the treatment.
  • Sunscreen should be worn beginning 24 hours post treatment.
  • Avoid active skincare products for the next 7 days, including but not limited to:
    • Vitamins A, C and E
    • Retinol, Retin-A, and Retinoids
    • Niacinamide, other ceramide products
    • Acids (AHA, BHA, PHA, Lactic, Glycolic, Salicylic, etc.)
    • Hydroquinone
    • Benzoyl Peroxide
    • Exfoliating products

What to Expect

Day of the Treatment – Immediately after the treatment, the skin will feel hot. After the area cools, you may still feel heat similar to a mild sunburn for up to a few hours. This is a normal reaction.

  • You may apply cold compresses (not ice) as needed.
  • Tylenol or Ibuprofen may be taken to alleviate discomfort.

Day 1 – Skin may be mildly swollen, red, and tight. This is normal.

  • Wash with a gentle cleanser twice a day.
  • Apply moisturizer and medical grade SPF such as EltaMD.
  • You may use mineral-based makeup if necessary.

Day 2 – Skin may still have swelling, redness, and even a rough texture.

  • Wash with a gentle cleanser twice a day.
  • Apply moisturizer and medical grade SPF such as EltaMD.

Day 3-5 – Mild flaking & peeling is expected and normal.

  • Wash with a gentle cleanser twice a day.
  • Apply moisturizer and medical grade SPF such as EltaMD.
  • Avoid scrubbing or picking the dry skin as it is still healing and this can compromise the overall treatment results.

Day 7-10 – Skin will feel softer and healing should be complete. For some treatments that are more aggressive, the process can take up to two weeks.

  • When healing is complete, you may resume using active skincare products.
