Your Dermal Fillers Care Guide

Pre-Treatment

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements such as Aspirin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Ginkgo Biloba, garlic supplements, green tea, flax oil, fish oil, Vitamins A and E, and essential fatty acids for 72 hours prior to treatment to reduce the risk of bruising.
  • Discontinue blood thinners such as Xarelto, Eliquis, and Coumadin/Warfarin for 7 days prior to injection to avoid appointment cancellation.
  • Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours before treatment to minimize bruising.
  • Avoid potentially irritating topical products for 3 days before treatment, including tretinoin, retinol/retinoids, glycolic or salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone, and AHA/BHA products.
  • Notify your provider if you have a history of cold sores in the treatment area. Antiviral medication should begin 48 hours prior to treatment if prescribed.
  • Do not receive treatment if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, allergic to any ingredients, or have a history of neurological disorders.
  • Avoid immunizations (including COVID-19, Influenza, Shingles, Gardasil, etc.) for 4 weeks before treatment.

Day of Treatment

  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin.
  • Mild tenderness, stinging, redness, or swelling during or after injections is normal.
  • Inform your provider of any changes in skin condition, medical history, supplements, or over-the-counter medications.
  • You cannot be treated if you have active cold sores or open herpes simplex lesions in the treatment area.

Post-Treatment

General Care

  • Bruising, swelling, lumps, or bumps at the injection site are normal and may take up to 2 weeks to resolve.
  • Do not massage treated areas unless directed by your provider.
  • Avoid pressure on the injection site while sleeping.
    Sleep on your back with your head elevated for 48 hours.
  • Apply SPF daily and avoid extended UV exposure until swelling and redness have resolved.
  • Tylenol may be used to ease swelling or discomfort.
  • Lip filler: Apply clean Aquaphor or Vaseline if lips become dry or chapped.

First 24 Hours

  • Avoid strenuous exercise to reduce the risk of bruising or filler migration.
  • Resume other normal activities unless otherwise directed.

First 48 Hours

  • Continue sleeping on your back with your head elevated to minimize swelling.

First 2 Weeks

  • Avoid topical products such as retinol, retinoids, AHA/BHA acids, benzoyl peroxide, or hydroquinone for 1 week.
  • Avoid laser, IPL, facials, or any other skin treatments to the treated area for 2 weeks.
