Dermal Filler Treatment Guidelines

Pre Care Instructions

  • Avoid blood thinners such as Aspirin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Ginko Biloba, garlic supplements, green tea, flax oil, fish oil, Vitamins A and E, and essential fatty acids for 72 hours pre and post injection to reduce risk of bruising.
  • STOP USE of blood thinners such as Xarelto, Eliquis, Coumadin/Warfarin for 7 days prior to injection to avoid appointment cancellation.
  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before (or after) your treatment to reduce risk of bruising.
  • Do not apply products that are potentially irritating for 3 days before and after injections. (Including but not limited to: Tretinoin, Retin-A/Retinol/Retinoids, glycolic or salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone, AHA/BHA)
  • Inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores in the treatment area. Antiviral medication will be prescribed and should begin 48 hours prior to treatment.
  • DO NOT receive treatment if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, allergic to any of the ingredients or have a history of neurological disorders. Please inform your provider if you have any questions about this prior to your injection.
  • Do not receive any immunizations (Including but not limited to: Covid19, Influenza, Shingles, Gardasil, etc.) within 4 weeks of treatment.

Day of Treatment Instructions

  • Arrive with clean, washed skin without make-up.
  • You may experience a mild amount of tenderness or stinging during and following your injection.
  • Update your provider on any changes in skin condition, medical history, supplements, and over the counter medications.
  • You cannot be treated if you have active cold sores or herpes simplex open sores within the treatment area.
  • Redness, swelling, and bruising are all normal responses to injections.

Post Treatment Guidelines

  • You may experience bruising and swelling for several days post treatment.
  • Lumps and bumps in the treated area are normal and may take up to 2 weeks to dissipate – Do not massage after treatment unless instructed by your provider.
  • Avoid sleeping with pressure on the injection site. Sleep on your back with 2-3 pillows elevating your head for 48 hours following treatment.
  • Avoid extended UV exposure until all redness and swelling subside. Apply SPF.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours to reduce risk of bruising and filler migration. You may resume other normal activities/routines immediately.
  • Avoid laser, IPL, facials, or other skin treatments to the treatment area for a minimum of 2 weeks.
  • You may resume use of topical products 1 week after injections. (Including but not limited to: Tretinoin, Retin-A/Retinol/Retinoids, glycolic or salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, hydroquinone, AHA/BHA)
  • You may take Tylenol as needed to reduce any swelling or discomfort.
  • Lip filler patients: You may use a clean, new container of Aquaphor or Vaseline if you experience dry or chapped lips.
