Post-Treatment

General Care

  • Expect redness and a mild to moderate sunburn-like sensation immediately after treatment.
  • Mild swelling may occur, especially around thinner skin (eyes, lips).
  • Skin may feel dry, tight, or develop a “sandpaper-like” texture as it heals.
  • Avoid ALL skincare products not provided or approved by your provider.
  • Avoid warm or hot water until the skin has recovered.
  • Cool compresses or cold, wet gauze may be used for comfort.
  • Notify your provider of any unexpected reactions, changes in skin condition, or medication updates.

First 24 Hours

  • Arrive to treatment with clean, product-free skin.
  • Avoid lotion, creams, oils, and makeup on the treated area.
  • Leave skin bare after treatment.
  • Do not wash your face or apply makeup.
  • If skin feels very dry or tight, you may lightly pat on EltaMD Enzyme HydroGel with clean hands.
  • Treatment cannot be performed over active cold sores, lesions, severe acne, herpes simplex, or sunburn.

Days 2–5

  • Light flaking or microscabbing is expected and typically resolves within 2–5 days.
  • A rough or “sandpaper-like” texture may persist from 3–10 days as treated cells shed.
  • Do not pick or scrub the skin.
  • Continue the following routine:

Morning

  • Wash with EltaMD Skin Recovery Amino Acid Foaming Cleanser.
  • Apply a thin layer of EltaMD Enzyme HydroGel.
  • Apply EltaMD Barrier Renewal Complex.
  • Finish with EltaMD UV Skin Recovery SPF.

Evening

  • Wash with Skin Recovery Amino Acid Foaming Cleanser.
  • Apply Enzyme HydroGel.
  • Apply Barrier Renewal Complex.

Days 5–10

  • Continue using your EltaMD routine unless instructed otherwise.
  • Skin may remain pink or slightly sensitive.
  • You may resume active products (retinoids, exfoliants, vitamin C) after 7–10 days, or once skin feels fully calm.

After 10 Days

  • Maintain consistent SPF use and gentle skincare.
  • Resume full-strength active products when approved by your provider.

Important Reminders

  • Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours; if applying afterward, ensure brushes are freshly cleaned.
  • Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours during sun exposure.
  • For the first 48 hours:
    • Avoid direct sun exposure
    • Avoid strenuous exercise
    • Avoid hot yoga, saunas, steam rooms, and jacuzzis
  • Excess heat and sweating may increase irritation or risk of complications.

  • Exfoliating acids (AHAs, BHAs, PHAs, glycolic, lactic, salicylic, etc.)
