Pre-Treatment
- Avoid all sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanner for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment, as sun exposure increases the risk of post-treatment complications.
- Discontinue sun-sensitizing antibiotics such as doxycycline, Bactrim, and Levaquin for 1 week before treatment.
- Do not use Accutane for at least 6 months prior to treatment.
- Avoid Botox or filler injections for a minimum of 2 weeks before treatment.
- Discontinue topical retinoids/retinols, chemical or enzyme peels, exfoliants, topical antibiotics, exfoliating masks, hydroquinone, benzoyl peroxide, acne products, and AHA/BHA products for 7 days prior to treatment.
- If you have a history of cold sores in the treatment area, begin antiviral medication 48 hours prior to treatment as prescribed by your provider.
Day of Treatment
- Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin and no lotions, creams, or topical products applied to the treatment area.
- Inform your provider of any changes to your skin condition, medical history, supplements, or over-the-counter medications.
- Treatment cannot be performed if you have active cold sores or sunburn in the treatment area.
Post-Treatment
General Care
- Gentle cleansing and non-irritating cosmetics are permitted after treatment.
- Discontinue retinoids for 1 week before and after each session.
- Apply SPF 30+ broad-spectrum sunscreen throughout your treatment series.
Physical blockers such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are highly recommended. - Cool compresses may be used for comfort.
- You may alternate acetaminophen and ibuprofen for discomfort as needed.
- Itching is normal — do not scratch or apply heavy lotions.
Over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream may be used if needed.
First 24 Hours
- Avoid heavy moisturizers or makeup if you are prone to acne.
First 14 Days
- Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds.
- Do not use chemical peels, exfoliants, facials, or scrubs.
- Avoid microdermabrasion, shaving, waxing, or additional laser treatments on the treated area.
